Informit brings Asia-Pacific perspective to UKSG

Informit brings Asia-Pacific perspective to UKSG

Apr 18, 2018 |

The 41st annual UKSG (United Kingdom Serials Group) conference was recently held over three days in Glasgow, Scotland.

As the largest of its kind in the region, the conference is a must-attend event for the UK market and brings together more than 750 delegates including librarians, publishers, technology vendors and content providers.

Informit was represented by Senior Business Development Manager, John Nuutinen; Production Projects Manager, Laki Sideris; and UK agent, Peter Dodd from Thompson Henry.

Mr Nuutinen commented that many of the plenary sessions and discussion centred around Open Access and educational resources as an important area of growth and opportunity for development. Countries in the region have been devising national strategies to support a transition to Open Access content.

“With negotiations between academic institutions and publishers well underway, Open Access dominated a thought-provoking programme of speakers and presenters from around the world,” Mr Nuutinen said.

“The UK and Sweden, in particular, have a shared desire to see all research outputs made Open Access as part of the Open Access 2020 initiative.”

Open Access 2020 is a global alliance which collaborates to transform the current publishing system with new models that ensure outputs are open and reusable and that the costs are transparent and economically sustainable.

Informit brought an important perspective from the Asia-Pacific region with the Informit Indigenous Collection. With over 19,000 records from 1977, the Indigenous Collection provides access to emergent and ground-breaking research within the global community.

There were a number of interested parties as the Collection is particularly relevant to many Australian academics, based overseas.

UKSG’s mission is to connect the knowledge community through publications and events, supporting discussion and progression of the issues facing UKSG members. Visit UKSG for more information.

As a leading provider of information management services to the education, government and corporate sectors, both in Australasia and overseas, Informit sees value in maintaining its knowledge across the information management sector globally. The annual UKSG conference provides an opportunity to keep across this global landscape.

From its head office in Melbourne, Australia, Informit works with library consortia, associations and agents to help users advance their research through access to peer-reviewed and specialist journals, monographs, reports, conference papers and bibliographic indexes, collated with a focus on regional perspectives and otherwise hard-to-find research.
