Presenting Medical Online-E, a database providing in English, access to over 1000 Japanese medical Journals.
Dissemination of Japanese research has always suffered at the hands of the language barrier. In the field of medicine, the availability of the Medical*Online-E database from the Japanese publisher Meteo promises to address this problem significantly.
The database was launched in Japan in 2001 and serves 800,000 Japanese end-users. In 2014, a multi-language mechanical translation function (English, Chinese & Korean) was built into the database to enable medical professionals around the globe to discover medical resources which had been largely untapped outside Japan.
Medical*Online-E now covers around 1.6 million articles published in more than 800 Japanese medical journals (as of March 2014, 1,349,387 articles originally written in Japanese, and 134,833 in English). Searches can be made in English, and users can browse journal names, keywords and medical societies’ names. Medical*Online-E also has external links with PubMed and link resolvers.
